Cade Jarvis (born 1998) is an artist residing in the energetic city of Portland, ME. Jarvis received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting from Maine College of Art and Design located in Portland, ME in 2020. His work has been featured in exhibition venues including the Institute of Contemporary Art in Portland, ME; Carver Hill Gallery in Camden, ME; Nightshade Gallery in Littleton, NH; and in Dodomu Gallery in NYC, NY. When Jarvis is not in the studio making art he is out exploring the world around him taking inspiration from the many different states and countries he has visited but most importantly the city he calls home.

In these paintings, painter Cade Jarvis highlights the beauty of power lines and their relationship with the sky. Jarvis contemplates how these lines, ubiquitous and necessary in our daily lives, create drawings against the heavens. In a world where there are editing programs available specifically to remove power lines from photographs, these paintings exist as odes to the necessity and oft-missed delicacy of these cables which serve to connect us all to the rest of the world. This connectivity is important to Jarvis as the depicted power lines in his paintings are recreations of those he has documented on his travels around the different States and Countries he has visited. These serve as a constant reminder of the relationships he has built and nourished along the way.

“Ultimately I want these paintings to remind viewers, and myself, that there is more to see everywhere we go and no matter where we go,” says Jarvis. “A camera can’t always capture the very essence of your feelings as you stand there and enjoy the view.”
